Week 37

Dear Grade 1 parents,

This week we have been practicing our play for the Celebration of Learning Performance.

Students have been working hard to finish up all of their Language Centre goals by the end of the year. This week for our scavenger hunt, students used their dictionary skills to find words with the blend sounds spl and spr.

We also finished up our exchange with Jinsho by picking the last of the vegetables. All students got to take a vegetable home.

Grade 1 have been learning about time, and this week they investigated time that is important to them (what time they sleep, what time they start school). Students have been playing many fun clock games.

Kind regards,
Sara Matthews

Learning about animals

Grade1 students have been reading "Doubutsu no akachan(Baby animals)" from their Kokugo textbook.
JAL students played the animal cards and learned how to say animals in Japanese.
It was their first experience to write the paragraph numbers in the long story and they liked reading it together.

Week 36

Dear Grade 1 families,

This week we have started practising our play for the Celebration of Learning end of year performance. It is very exciting as it was written by two of the classroom students. The students' chose their part and got to write a line to describe themselves.

They have been making costumes and researching performance techniques.
We have also finished up our maps of our town that we have created.

In maths, we have moved on to time. Students are learning how to tell time by the hour and by the half hour. Please encourage your children to look at the clock and ask them to read the time and important intervals (lunch time, dinner time, bed time) as next week we will start recording these.

In language, students are starting to write more fluently and many are starting to publish their own work.

Kind regards,
Sara Matthews

We go to the big Chuo Library and we found some books that we can read. We went to the police station to look at some police and they were working because they were finding bad guys.

We made some vegetables with Jinsho. Yesterday there was a vegetable that we can eat but we touch it and smell it! it was a real vegetable!
